We were already at 0.7% mark ten years back during Oomen Chandy's time.

Though, as someone pointed out, if the base year is different, especially covid years, then it maybe difficult to compare.  

Anyway, hoping that it improves further and the country is not pulled backward with communal polarisation, which seems to be a major threat today(which also masks other issues like corruption n all).  

Also, hoping that G becomes socialist or so and starts land and education reforms, as possible, in the places that are lagging.

So what is considered poor..??? I read somewhere that poor means you earn less than 1000 RS a month and the figure is unchanged for over 30 years.. is this still the case.???

There is no doubt about poverty reduction in India over the years, but it is definitely not as great as this summary shows.

MPI underwent significant changes in 2021 when they added two new India specific parameters (maternal health and bank account usage) and adjusted the weights of the new 12 parameters. Obviously this made it inaccurate for comparison between previous and the current data, evident from the sudden jump in the index values during this period, despite COVID.

Hence take this data with a grain of salt. We are governed by a party which still uses the prices of CDs, DVDs, tape recorders and other obsolete junk in the sample basket to artificially lower official inflation values, while using a better scope to calculate GDP and growth values. What is the daiky or weekly amount below which a family is considered living under poverty? Because it used to be something like below 40 rs earlier and now somewhat under 50 while govt is not taking inflation into. Who is able to live under 50 rs now let alone a family. Their threshold is so down which is the reason I think it shows most are above poverty.

Half the adult population in India is earning less than 250/- per day. 90% population is earning less than 1000/- per day. Considering the MPI factors, how many would be able to afford quality education, health, nutrition and other indicators. This infographics is BS.

I can't believe all these idiots here talking about 80+ crore population taking ration. First of all, the government should stop procuring substandard grains from farmers. I mean what government is supposed to do with this grain, you cannot sell if to general public or export it since the quality is shit, all they can do store this in godowns across the country and push this as free ration to the masses. we have seen what happened when the central government introduced farm laws.

A lot of people here are going to downvote this post because they can't handle seeing the good things happening in India. But I'd say it's a phenomenal achievement. The transformation of India in 15 years is huge. Just imagine if we keep up this growth for another 15 to 20 years. Yeah, India is definitely going to be a developed country by then. And I hope we're all around to enjoy it.

I believe the reason the red has turned green is that the government continues to use the same poverty thresholds, while actual inflation is much higher. As a result, even though people are shown as being above those thresholds, they still cannot maintain a decent standard of living.

Not to bash socialism, but the Kerala government is drowning in excess debt to fund all of their social welfare schemes knowing that the federal government will come to rescue if things go wrong. So, they are effective but not efficient.

There is a huge misconception among many Indians that Kerala is some small sparsely populated tribal type of land similar to North East. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Kerala is mostly filled with uninhabitable mountains, lakes, rivers, backwaters, ponds and nature reserves. Coastal Kerala has a population density in excess of 1500 people per sqft, which effectively makes it the most densely populated non-Metropolitan settlement in the world. And this is despite the fact that Kerala was the state with the lowest population growth since independence. 

Kerala has historically been the biggest maritime trading hub in India. This made Malabar Coast very wealthy and populous. People confuse the lack of metropolises in Kerala with the lack of urbanization when in reality Kerala is nearly 80% urban, by far the highest rate in India.
